What does the world think of BMW?

To mark 100 years of BMW, reporters for BMW Magazine set off to visit locations where tomorrow’s world is already in the making today. On their journeys, they asked people how much they actually know about BMW. Here’s what their street survey turned up.

From Johannesburg to San Francisco and Silicon Valley, from Berlin to the United Arab Emirates, our roving reporters gained deep insights into the highly effective and innovative strategies these cities and regions have used to invest in their futures. What’s more, they met many inspirational individuals – experts as well as ordinary people – over a simple meal or coffee.

Two South African women told us matter-of-factly what BMW stands for: “Be My Wife” – alluding, of course, to the legendary powers of attraction exerted by the brand.

The reporters asked people for their views on the BMW brand and the BMW Group. What did the name BMW conjure up in their minds? What did the initials "BMW" actually stand for? What brands made up the BMW Group? And could they draw the BMW logo from memory? The result of the survey is a series of sympathetic and amusing interviews, edited together to create the video above.
