In 2003, the all-new BMW X3 broke new ground. It was the first premium mid-size Sports Activity Vehicle and is considered today to have created this very popular model segment. Now the third generation of the BMW X3 is also taking on a pioneering role. No other model in this class offers such a perfectly balanced blend of comfort, versatility and state-of-the-art connectivity both on and off-road. All topped off by the sportiness and dynamism that BMW is renowned for. This is particularly true of the new top-of-the range BMW X3 M40i (pictured above), whose 360 hp propel the flagship vehicle faster than any of its predecessors.

The new BMW X3 radiates an air of supreme confidence that is instantly noticeable. The design places particular emphasis on the car’s impressive off-road qualities, while the vehicle’s sporting credentials stand out even more clearly than they did in its predecessor. Although the exterior dimensions have barely changed, the three-dimensional radiator grille and large air intakes at the front, powerfully contoured wheel arches and striking tail end with two sets of tailpipes combine to give the new BMW X3 a more powerful and bolder overall feel.

The revised control logic and many of the functions have been adopted from the 7 Series and 5 Series models.

The interior offers added comfort for passengers in the rear primarily thanks to an extended wheelbase. The skilfully combined materials as well as elegant touches such as the finely brushed, gleaming silver BMW X logo in the door area or the soft Sensatec instrument panel clearly spell quality and class. Using or touching them gives driver and passengers alike the distinct impression of being in a luxury-class BMW vehicle. The panoramic glass roof covers almost the entire surface of the roof, affording a great view from the vehicle, particularly for passengers in the rear.

The revised control logic and many of the functions have been adopted from the 7 Series and 5 Series models. The standard-fit BMW iDrive system offers intuitive touchscreen control in conjunction with the optional Navigation System Professional. In addition to the familiar BMW iDrive Controller, the remarkably natural voice control and hand-signal-based gesture control further enhance ease of operation.

Passengers feel as if they are in a luxury-class BMW vehicle: exquisite materials and careful attention to detail are the hallmarks of quality and value.

Most of the optional driver assistance and connectivity systems available also originated in the BMW luxury class. The Driving Assistant plus package includes functions that actively keep the BMW X3 in its lane and can change lanes at speeds of up to 110 mph, warn of upcoming junctions or assist the driver in critical forward-collision situations.

The BMW Connected services link up the X3 with the owner’s digital world. Connected services such as On-Street Parking Information and real-time traffic details provide efficient, unobtrusive assistance during everyday driving. The wide choice of engines, the beautifully sporty chassis and the flexible interior concept round off the overall package. As a result, the BMW X3 once again leads the way in the vehicle segment that it created some 15 years ago.

The BMW Display Key allows drivers to check the X3’s status from outside the vehicle as well – from range to mileage.
