BMW Connected

Perfectly connected in today’s mobile world

For stylist Christiane Graf, BMW Connected is a highly valued and reliable personal mobility assistant. It gives her seamless connectivity at all times, whether in her car or away from it, with the help of digital touchpoints such as her smartphone or smartwatch. And it won’t be long before the digital services start to become more and more deeply rooted, more prevalent and even more seamlessly integrated into her digital life.

Years ago, BMW became the first carmaker to connect driver and vehicle when it introduced BMW ConnectedDrive. The system has been steadily enhanced to include new services that drivers can access from their vehicle to make driving both faster and easier. Now BMW Connected is going a step further and taking a holistic approach to seamless mobility. For starters, the system uses an app to simplify the day-to-day planning of multiple driving routes; this helps increase punctuality and reduce the stress involved in scheduling. To do this, BMW Connected* scans the driver’s calendar, imports relevant appointments into the mobility agenda and notifies the driver of the optimum departure time for arriving at the destination on schedule.

Using the BMW Connected app, Christiane Graf can be constantly connected to her new BMW 5 Series. The app displays a variety of information, including the current vehicle status, its location and the next destination.

The BMW Connected app provides “time-to-leave” notifications to make sure the user sets off in good time to arrive on schedule. And, throughout, the expected driving time is checked in real time against current traffic conditions.

The BMW Connected app is a personal digital assistant that combines various important functions designed to help with day-to-day mobility. It does so by recognising mobility-related information, such as appointments contained in the smartphone’s calendar, and notifying the user of the optimum departure time for timely arrival at the destination. Push notifications are sent to the driver’s smartphone or smartwatch informing them of the departure time recommended to ensure that they arrive on schedule. In the background, the app regularly recalculates the driving time by factoring in prevailing traffic conditions.

Entering destinations and communicating while driving have also been significantly simplified. Notifications of precise arrival times can be sent with a single click to everyone taking part in a meeting.

In the future, digitalisation will have an even greater influence on the way we use our vehicles. Cars, too, will be transformed more and more into smart devices – intelligently connected, seamlessly integrated and individually tailored to the needs of every user. Against this backdrop, BMW Connected and the functions it offers will continue to evolve apace.

The Remote 3D View function makes it possible to check what is going on around the vehicle from any location at any time. Using the cameras installed in the car, the app can display 360° images of the vehicle’s surroundings on the user’s smartphone.
